ABOUT THE ILLUSTRATION
This illustration was inspired by the track 'Hermes' appearing on the debut album of Austrian prog-rock band 'Maira'. A cropped version of the piece also appears in the collected art book accompanying the album's release, featuring art from various incredible illustrators all over the world, each themed after a song from the album.

The piece recounts the story of the famed trickster god Hermes (Mercury) tasked by Zeus to retrieve Lo, a nymph disguised as a heifer and placed under the protection of the monstrous, many-eyed giant, Argus Panoptes at the command of Hera. It was said Hermes beheaded the giant after lulling him to sleep, but the frightfully loyal monster's memory was commemorated by his master, Hera, who fashioned his eyes into a peacock's tail.
